artist statement

Mesmerized by light - the visible part of the electromagnetic spectrum. Light is my material and subject. As light is intangible other materials are needed to capture and reflect the light. Materials are either transparent, specular or mat. Shapes are geometric with a twist so they appear organic.

For me light is space. Art pieces relate to the working of the human eye with regards to light adaptation (across nine orders of magnitude) and the impact of contrast and movement on our experience of space. We cannot step outside our own subjective experience, never escaping our personal projection reflecting back at us. What can we see and how do we see it?

By intuitively playing with illuminance and luminance the result is installations and objects that let the viewer experience the profound magic of light and space. Preferably using natural materials and/or upcycling existing materials.

Siegrid Siderius makes installations, 3D and 2D objects with light as subject.

Siegrid (1969) lives in Amsterdam and graduated from Art College Artez in Arnhem (1992). In her career to date emphasis has been on architectural lighting design.
